Sulphur has been known by this name from Classical Greek (Hellenic) times. Its spelling has vaied a little.

between 'Sulphur, Sulfur, and Brimstone.

The modern IUPAC /(American ) spelling is 'Sulfur' The discounted British spellimng is 'Sulphur'.

'The name Brimstone is though to come from that fact that was collected from thr edges (brim) of volcanic craters.
