So I've been reading up on this, as I had the same question...and what I can gather is that isn't any awesome story attached :(. It's called a rubber policeman simply due to the fact that it's a "rubber" attachment to stirring rod, and it "polices" things by keeping them clean and in order. So I suppose they could have called it a rubber policer...but maybe they thought it looked like someone where a helmet too so added a man at the end. But that's the best I can find, enjoy chemistry :).
Yes, rubber is derived from petroleum through a process called polymerization.
Rubber can be broken down through a process called oxidation, where oxygen reacts with the rubber molecules and causes them to break apart.
Rubber is a polymer made up of repeating units called monomers. The bonds holding the monomers together in rubber are covalent bonds.
The chemical known for emitting a scent similar to burnt rubber is called styrene.
Sulfur is commonly used as the element for hardening rubber through a process called vulcanization. It creates cross-links between rubber polymer chains, making the material more durable, elastic, and resistant to heat and wear.
The rubber that comes from oil is called 'synthetic rubber'. The rubber that comes from trees is called 'natural rubber'.
Slang term for a policeman (usually a constable)
Rubber tree fluid is called latex. It is a milky white sap that is extracted from the rubber tree (Hevea brasiliensis) and is used to produce natural rubber.
In 1980, rubber overshoes were, and still are, called rubbers or galoshes. Foam rubber sandals were called thongs or flip-flops. Translucent colored rubber scandals were called Jellies.
Yes Indeed Rubber gloves are made out of a substance called rubber.

A rubber band is also called an elastic.
From the plant - "tapping" rubber sap.

No. It is "rubber" or a synthetic form of it. That is why it is called a rubber eraser and not a steel eraser.
The point at which a rubber band breaks is called its breaking or failure point.
its called latex gloves and the other glove is called rubber
