Nitrous oxide is commonly used by dentists as a mild sedative to keep the patient calm during lengthy dental work. It causes euphoria in the patient and some giggle and laugh. Thus the nickname of laughing gas. My dentist calls it happy gas.

n20 (laughing gas) is a gas that will cause unconsuness and dizzyness. The gas will make you laugh or as scintest say "the giggle stage" It is said to have a great relaxing feeling as you inhale the gas. The main purpose of laughing gas is to be used to calm people down during dental procedures. It does not put the person to sleep but makes the person not care about what is going on in their mouth.

Nitrous oxide stimulates the reward pathways in the brain. This creates a euphoric effect in the user as well as acting as an anesthetic. This combination often lead early users to laugh pleasantly, hence N2O being called laughing gas.
