Water is a compound because it COMBINATION of Hydrogen atoms and Oxygen atoms. They are combined cavalently, (electron sharing).

Water is NOT an element , because it is a COMBINATION of two elements. viz. hydrogen and oxygen .

Water is NOT a mixture, because electrons would NOT be chared in a mixture.

Hydrogen and Oxygen gases would just remain as gases.

The chemical formula for water is ' H2O' . This tells us that there are two atoms of hydrogen and one atom of oxygen. Structurally they are combined as 'H-O-H '.

Possible chemical names for 'WATER' are ' Hydrogen Oxide', Dihydrogen monoxide'. However, names like these are never used. Water's name in science, like everywhere else , is just 'WATER'.
