Soot means dark black smoke, it is due to unburned particles of carbon. when a compound (specially aromatic) has a high ratio of carbon then on combustion all the carbon is not converted into carbon dioxide but escaped out as unburned particles.

because its not so hot and sucks more oxygen so it definitely produces more soot.

Soot is produced because something like wood or paper has been burned. This soot is produced as a product of this reaction.

Incomplete combustion - too little oxygen - the flame colour is from unburnt carbon.

Soot is the carbon particulate existent from burning wood or other carbon-containing materials. It's just the result of something being burned.

the yellow flame

What is the difference between luminous and non luminous?

-A non-luminous flame is when the air hole of the Bunsen burner is closed but a luminous flame is produced when the air hole is opened.-A luminous flame has an outer of orange colour and an inner of blue. A non-luminous flame has an outer of blue and an inner of orange.-A luminous flame produces soot while a non-luminous does not produce soot.-A luminous flame is weak and unsteady. A non-luminous flame is strong and steady.-A non-luminous flame is very hot while a luminous flame is not too hot.

Is non luminous flame steady or unsteady?

Non-luminous flame should be used for heating in the because the flame is steady and produce little or no soot. Non-luminous flame is very hot thus, it is recommen- dable to use for laboratory purposes. Luminous flame is unsteady while non-lumi- nous flame is steady. Another reason of using non-luminous flame because the flame of non-luminous is blue, and not visible unlike the luminous flame which is yellow in colour and visible.

Should a luminous or non luminous Bunsen flame be used for heating in the laboratory and why?

Non-luminous flame should be used for heating in the laboratory because the flame is steady and produce little or no soot.Non-luminous flame is very hot thus, it is recommendable to use for laboratory purposes.Luminous flame is unsteady while non-luminous flame is steady.Another reason of using non-luminous flame because the flame of non-luminous is blue, and not visible unlike the luminous flame which is yellow in colour and visible.

Why is non luminous blue flame preferred over the luminous yellow flame in the laboratory?

blue flame is more important for laboratory procedures since it's also known as the reducing zone of the flame in which the tip of the blue flame has the highest temperature. and thank you , a Dental student ;D

Why is it advisable to turn a luminous flame to a non luminous flame when the flame is not in use?

prevents soot generation

Which type of flame should use in laboratory luminous or non luminous?

Non- luminous flame should be used as it is steady and produces little or no soot.

How does luminous flame exist?

because of the yellow flame, yellow is a bright coulor........... Scientific term......... The collar is closed to get luminous flame and collar open to get non- luminous flame....

Why is black soot formed when the flame is luminous?

The black deposit produced represents soot particles, heated to incandescence. It comes about when the combustion of air is insufficient.

Characteristics of luminous flame?

Non luminous zone is the zone of a flame which is also the hottest zone of the flame as it is mostly in contact with oxygen. It is also called invisible zone.

Is the temperature of a luminous flame greater ot less than that of a nonluminous flame?

The yellow color in a luminous flame is basically the black-body emission from hot particles of soot in the flame. they are hot, and they glow like the filament of a light bulb. In a blue flame, there are no particles of soot to give that incandescent radiation. Instead, the main color you see is blue emission from the high-energy C2 molecule.

Which flame is not suitable for heating in Bunsen burner?

The yellow flame (or luminous flame) should not be used because 1. It is less hot that the blue flame (or non-luminous flame) 2. It produces soot, as compared to the blue flame which is the clean flame
