Yes and no - it depends on the specific area you are talking about. There is no national ban on pit bulls, but some cities/communities have banned the owning of these dogs.

Unfortunately, the bans are difficult to track and enforce - there is no set breed standard for what is a "pit bull" that is accepted, so Boxers and some terrier breeds are mistakenly identified as being "pit bulls". Also, not all pit bulls are aggressive and dangerous - it depends on the training and handling they receive from the time they are puppies. There are very aggressive and outright vicious pit bulls, but there are also very docile and friendly pit bulls as well.
