The wolverine is exceptionally cunning and intelligent as shown by his ability to locate well-hidden traps and spring them without getting caught. If there is an animal in the trap, he kills it, devours all he can, and then spoils the rest so that the animal's value as food and peat is destroyed. He shadows trappers and hunters, managing to be so elusive that Indians and Eskimos think of him as an evil spirit. He prefers to follow a trapper rather than to hunt for himself. He will destroy a trapper's food and supplies for no apparent reason.
