It is obvious. there is a sort of men"s club with four or more Male characters, headed by bigshot Toad, and no female characters. to a much milder extent, this is true also of Winnie-The-Pooh but that is even more childish and animal cartoonish- I always thought that Wind in the willows was essentially a sort of Gay situation comedy written as a novel with overtones of the animal cartoon ( which did not exist at the time in feature-length mode- mov ies barely at the Charlie Chaplin era.
