Using animal in the broadest sense- the Eagle or Hawk- both derived from the same word, Aquila, in Latin. Politicians who favor military action have long been called (hawks). In Shakespeare there is the line- Cry Havoc!- and let slip the Dogs of War, so Dogs have a martial context too ( certainly Pit Bulls are on the aggressive path).Horses of course were used in warfare ( cavalry, also pulled field pieces in the artillery- as did Mules-) but a horse by itself is not necessarily bellicose.
It symbolizes the "The Second World War"
