Maybe try some of the Alvin Schwartz books for some spooky books. Another suspenseful mystery book that could fall under the Halloween category is a book called "The Clearing". It would work for fourth graders beacuse it is completely appropriate and uses no profanity.
Actually the book "Time Machine" is not only for fourth graders. Many grade fivers are reading or have read it, also good grade three readers are reading or read it. I personally have not read it but I have heard its a good book.
An ar book is an accelerated reader book that at a school you can take a test on it. An AR book is a book registered by accelerated reader that you can take a test on and get AR points for home work if your school uses AR. Each book has it's own level and points. For example if a book is 4.5 and gives 5 points, The book is for 4th graders and gives 5 points. Points is usually used for homework. In my middle school we have to get 20 points by the end of a quarter.
Fourth grade? Possibly. But not the rest of the series maybe not 4th grade for any of the books. i would suggest if you are in at least 5th grade to read any of them. except the last book...wait 'til 6th or 7th grade for that one!
