Billy's mom's name is never told. She was always recognized as Mama.
The first thing that Billy caught in his trap in the novel "Where the Red Fern Grows" was a raccoon.
the first problem was that Billy wanted 2 hound dogs but could not afford them.
In the story "Where the Red Fern Grows," Mama made a beautiful coonskin coat out of Billy's first coon hide as a special gift for him. Billy was thrilled and proud to wear the coat made from his own hunting efforts.
Mama made a hat for Billy but then he gets upset with coons and goes hunting every night.

The point of view in "Where the Red Fern Grows" is first person, as the protagonist, Billy Colman, narrates the story from his own perspective, using "I" and "me" to tell the events that unfold. This allows readers to connect closely with Billy and experience the story through his eyes.
Billy saw a real train for the first time when he was in Tahlequah in the book Where the Red Fern Grows. This experience left a lasting impression on him and fueled his dreams of owning his very own pair of coonhounds.

If my memory serves me right it was the "ghost coon" in the rotten tree that he tracked the animal to.
It was a rare day in "Where the Red Fern Grows" because it was the first snowfall in the Ozarks in years. Billy and his dogs experienced the joy of playing in the snow, which was a special and cherished moment for them.
During the book, he start out as a 10 year old, but then he gets older during the book, and I think at the end he's 14. I'm almost positive on the 14 one, and positive about the 10.
