In this chapter, Cole discovers that he has not made any progress swimming to the next island. Cole eventually washes ashore weak, cold, and confused. Cole searches for the fire to warm up but cannot find it. As Cole sits down near where he left his clothes, he sees the spirit bear. The spirit bear stares at Cole, Cole gets angry with this matter and grabs a knife from one of the burnt boxes. When Cole turns to Face the bear, he is gone.
