What happens is Molly and James beat Slank senseless with coconuts, until he grabs Molly and threatens to kill her, if Peter does not give him the Starstuff. So he takes the starstuff out and gives Slank a trunk of nothing, and Slank is tricked.
Later, when the Senior Starcatcher arrives (also Molly's dad, Leonard Aster) the native's demand it, and also there is a battle between the natives and pirates, when they arrive. Then Mr. Grin arrives, just as Peter chops off Hook's hand and Mr. Grin eats it, and chases Hook and the pirates away. Becuase Hook stabs the chief savage Peter heals him, and gains trust and Leonard goes away with the Starstuff, leaving Peter and the Lost Boys with the natives.
