Little Bear is an Iroquois. Omri is inspired to read a book about the Iroquois tribe even though it was difficult reading for him. Little Bear demands that Omri find him a bride. Omri finds him Bright Stars.
Friendship to Omri in "The Indian in the Cupboard" meant companionship, loyalty, and understanding. It was about forming a deep connection with Little Bear and supporting each other through challenges and adventures. Friendship allowed Omri to learn from Little Bear and develop a greater appreciation for different perspectives and cultures.

He was an American Indian actually from the 1760's and was transported to Omri's time when the plastic toy figure was brought to life.

Omri decided to tell Patrick about Little Bear when he realized that keeping Little Bear's existence a secret was causing him stress and putting their friendship at risk. Omri also thought that Patrick would be able to help him take care of Little Bear and handle the responsibilities that came with having a living miniature person in their possession.
