Well people have different opinions you can't blame them. Maybe they just don't like the genre.
There's some things why they hate it. One is the fanbase. Most of it makes up of tween girls who tend to overuse emotes like :3, X3 and XD. This makes the hater rage and soon enough they blame the entire book series for it.
Some other stuff considered is probably because they have an undying hatred of cats and think dogs are superior to them. Remember, most of the haters have never read the series and if they did, they only finished one chapter.
