Catherine is a girl who wants everything to be her way. She does not like the rule that girl can't marry whomever they want. She also doesn't want to do chores, and she gets angry very easily. For instance the privy incident when she burnt it down with the suitor inside. She was like this throughout most of the entire book. Then she changed. At the end she knew that marrying whoever her father said was the rules. She then soon learned to like herself for the way she was. As Madame Joanna said, you are like a little bird you have wings but you need to master them. When Catherine changed so did the story. Catherine took the money from Shaggy Beard which meant she had to marry him. Then, he died in a brawl so she could marry Steven. It was a happy ending for Catherine.
