In my opinion cost escalation refers to a scenario in which cost enhancements of the specified items in the specified formula are agreed to be given to the contractor with time over the base line agreed therein. The price adjustment on the other hand refers to not only escalation or enhanced rates but variation in the negative side also. when we do a project for example we creating a road, we must notice which is the ground level measurement, consistency of the road is slightly accurate.. because when its about to do some adjustment on the road we must re-fixed and recreated a new calculation of measurement basically the old measurement as the references (baseline) so that we could easily precise in our work.

It is named so because of the shorter telescope it uses and also because in the original dumpy level the eye piece was an inverting lens such that it gave a shorter view for the same power of lens compared to wye level.

Dumpy level provides a horizontal line (parallel to earth's curvature); you can read the scale by holding it normal to the ground level. Take separate readings for separate points then compare them

First take the dumpy level to the place of surveying and place the tripod on the ground. Make sure that the three points of the tripod is placed such that the observer can take readings quite easily. Then take the dumpy level and place it on tripod and fix the center nut and make sure that the dumpy level doesn't shake. Then check the bubble level in the dumpy level and use adjust the main level screw so that at least 2/3 of the bubble is inside the circular area of the bubble level. Then adjust it by the other two screws and rotate the dumpy level 90 degrees and check whether the bubble shows a leveled stage. If it shows that the bubble is centered then it is O.K the dumpy level is leveled..... Then in order to take a reading, the u bubble should have to be leveled adjust the screw in the right side(there are a few adjusting screws,please get to know the actions performed by the screws, for that we must handle the instrument for sometime) and make sure the 'U' shape is formed. Now the instrument is ready take readings.....
