Terracing can lead to increased soil erosion if not properly maintained, as the flat surfaces can become saturated and lose stability. It may require significant initial investment and labor for construction, making it less feasible for some farmers. Additionally, terracing can limit the use of large machinery, potentially reducing agricultural efficiency. Lastly, improper design can cause water drainage issues, leading to waterlogging or insufficient irrigation.

The mountain had no terracing.
Terracing is inexpensive only in comparison to the alternative -- losing the topsoil to erosion. Topsoil takes thousands of years to rebuild once lost. Terracing can be done in a matter of weeks or months, depending on the equipment available and the amount of soil and/or rock to be moved. When depending on hand labor for steep hillsides, the project can take years, if not decades.

There are many things they are doing to help Haiti, they are sending over food, water, medicines and tents. they have created a CD called Helping Haiti, Everybody Hurts, in which many famous singers and bands are singing in. Many Charities are rushing in to help. People are also working out what would be the best way to design the buildings in Haiti, to prevent them from collapsing if another earthquake hits.
