There's no such thing as a "mint unveils 2009" penny. That's just the headline of an article announcing the release of four special designs honoring the Lincoln bicentennial.
These cents are hard to find in change because a lot of them were snapped up both by collectors and by ordinary people who wanted them as souvenirs. But they're not rare or valuable because so many were saved in almost-uncirculated or fully-uncirculated condition
In general, "S" mint marks from the San Fransisco mint are more scarce than other mint marks when it comes to pennies. But just because it has an "S" on it doesn't make it a rare, or even scarce coin.
They were minted at the Philidelphi(no mint-mark), Denver(D) mints. These pennies are not rare.
In 1962, there were no major errors or variations in pennies that are considered rare or valuable. However, coins in uncirculated condition or those with full mint luster may carry a premium to collectors.
Some 1990 pennies that may be worth more include those with errors, such as doubled dies or off-center strikes. Look for coins in mint condition or with no visible wear and consider having them graded by a professional coin grading service to determine their value. Additionally, pennies from the 1990s minted in Philadelphia ("P" mint mark) or San Francisco ("S" mint mark) tend to be more valuable than those from Denver ("D" mint mark).
Nothing in that range is classified as rare, but any British Penny in mint condition from those years would have a modest collector value to it.
1943 silver pennies
No 2009 pennies are "rare" strike, the final design of Lincoln's presidency had the lowest mintage of the series, but over 325 million of those coins were produced, hardly a rare strike. To put that into comparison, there were only 183,502,722 Peace Dollars minted throughout the entire lifetime of the coin's existence and the Peace Dollar is not considered to be a rare coin by any means. So while the 2009 Lincoln cent in the last design (keep in mind, this is only the last design, not the entire 2009 mintage) has a small mintage compared to the rest of the more modern pennies, there are a lot of pennies out there, it isn't rare in the least.
A rare date for wheat pennies would be 1909 S VDB.
No, the 1951 Lincoln cent is not rare.
Not really.
No. Remember, cents struck at Philadelphia don't carry a mint mark even though all other denominations have had a P mint mark since 1980.
Australian 1920 pennies were minted in both Melbourne and Sydney. On the reverse side underneath the word "PENNY", is a scroll. Coins minted in Melbourne will have a small dot under the scroll, coins minted in Sydney will have a small dot above the scroll. Some coins have no dot and could have been minted at either the Melbourne or Sydney Mints. The "no dots" coins are classified as rare. This means of determining the mint, only applies to 1920 pennies.
