Sometimes friends are very different and they have very few things in common. However, that can make a very good relationship - the only thing needed to be a friend is kindness. Mutual interests are not necessary. It is this kind of relationship that people mean when they say "opposites attract."

Other times, friends are very alike, and they bond over their shared interests rather than over their many differences. All types of friends are great to have, and there is not one better than the other.
