Answer : Look for identifying markings , especially on the top of the action .
It may indicate caliber , factory markings , dates or country of origin .
Clean excess dirt with a wipie to read markings , do not go further than that .

I own a Spanish Mauser. I don't know how to ID it but it looks almost identical to the standard rifle issued to the Germans in WW2, except for two things. (A) There is a wood stock in front of the rear sight. (B) There is an extension under the barrel for a bayonet that has a ring in the hilt and requires the bayonet to be installed away from the bottom of the barrel.

Without more information, impossible to tell. Mauser made pistols, rifles, machine guns and shotguns. The serial number applied to military production weapons is not unique to only one weapon. If you will post a full description of the firearm, we may be able to get you a date range, but that is not always possible. Sorry-
