What is the value of the first Franklin mint Christmas ingot of 1970?

At the close of the market on Friday 11/28/08, New York silver in .999 fine was selling for $10.36/oz. Sterling contains 92.5% pure silver, and the current value of a 1000 grain bar is thus ~$19.30. Franklin Mint shows the current value of a 1976 bar at $30.00. The bars were quite common in the 70's, but the number minted was reduced in the 80's and 90's, making those issues more valuable.

How much is 2000 grains of silver?

To determine the value of 2000 grains of silver, first convert grains to troy ounces, as precious metals are commonly measured in troy ounces. There are approximately 15.43 grains in a troy ounce, so 2000 grains is about 129.5 troy ounces. The value of silver fluctuates based on market prices; as of my last update, silver was priced around $24 per troy ounce, making 2000 grains worth approximately $3,108. However, for the most accurate valuation, you should check the current market price of silver.

What is the silver content and size of the coins in the Franklin Mint Gallery of Great Americans 1970-1971?

I have one of these coins so I did some research myself. I have the Helen Keller sterling silver coin from 1971 btw. At any rate, I read somewhere that the round is 25.5 grams of sterling silver (which is 92.5% silver). 1 gram equals .035274 ounces. Multiply that by 25.5 and you get roughly .9 ounces of sterling silver. Multiply the .9 ounces by .925 and you get .832 ounces of pure silver. So my guess is each round of the set contains .832 ounces asw. I suppose they could have .9 ounces but the difference is miniscule. If I were to purchase another of these coins I would base the value of the coin on the .832 figure and if selling base it on the .9 ounce figure. Just kidding. Hope this helps. Take care.
