I bought one at a used book store (a 1939) for $.50. That is 50 cents.
1938 wasn't a first edition or anything like that that would make it unusually valuable, so it's probably not worth anything. It is from one of the years that would have the infamous "dord", so it might be worth a couple of bucks to a collector of esoterica.
(So what's up with dord? An editor submitted a slip intended to mean that the letters D or d could be used as an abbreviation for density. However, the slip was misinterpreted and a new entry "dord" was created with that meaning. This first appeared in the 1934 edition and wasn't caught for several years.)
I dont know exactly how much the 1940 websters universities unabridged dictionary worth but the 1941 edition is worth about $250.00, so the 1940 edition must be worth a little more than that .
The value of a 1940 Webster's Dictionary can vary significantly based on its condition, edition, and whether it includes original features like dust jackets or illustrations. Generally, prices for vintage dictionaries can range from $10 to $100 or more for well-preserved copies. Collectors may pay higher amounts for rare editions or those in excellent condition. For an accurate valuation, it's best to consult a rare book dealer or an online auction site.
Circulated 1940 Washington quarters are common. Most are only valued for the silver, about $5.00.
A 1940 Mercury dime (not Liberty) is very common. If it shows any wear, the value is just for the silver, about $1.90.

1940 is not a rare date for Lincoln cents. In circulated condition, it's worth about 3 cents. A nice uncirculated one is worth about 50 cents.
