That's funny, the last time I checked the price of silver (5/1/11), it was $35.00 an ounce. This is a good investment piece, with an interesting history.
If the coin is a US Kennedy half dollar dated 1974 it has no silver in it and is face value.

If you're referring to a Kennedy half dollar, those minted in 1971 and after are NOT silver, and worth 50 cents.
Sell them on eBay. They are currently going for about $16 an ounce. Each silver coin is an ounce (should say 1 troy ounce, and .999 fine silver)
