The U.S. has struck $1 coins since the 1790s (with some interruptions) and at about a half-dozen mints, so you need to be MUCH more specific.

The only general answer is that $1 coins dated 1971 and later are not silver and not worth anything more than a dollar. If you have an older coin, please post a new question with the coin's specific date. If you can find a mint mark on the back (a small letter D, S, O, or CC) include that information.
