a MASON JAR is a jar that was meant for storing food from the early 1900's and very late 1800's maybe too they still make them today. There are many antique jars found like I found left on to ground in very old places. They can be very valuable.
If it is a blue glass jar than it is an old one. They used those jars to store many things from foods to poisons during the civil war. Also, check the lid if it has one. Metallic lids were used on the older mason jars. I have also heard that if the jar doesn't have a seam going down the side of it, it is one of the oldest models that mason produced. They hand blew jars before machine glassing them.
I saw some old mason jars in museum at Houston Tx in 1980 where the old Alamo was. They had the masonic symbol of a square and compass impressed in the side. There was lots of masonic regalia found after the battle. Many of the defenders were members. I asked many questions of those there but was unable to determine the link as depicted on the jar. They were and are often used as a drinking vessel in Texas....have a jar.
they usually sell for about $5.00 on eBay or craigslist.
There are many innovative ways today to recycle old material. Some ideas you may want to try include: using mason jars as sugar packet holders and using a mason jar as a piggy bank.
She is 39 years old :) It says on her character profile on one of Waterloo Roads websites
Ebay or your local auction house. Include in product description any damages and whether the lid is matched to the jar ect.
Take a look at the new freesat advertisement on television and the lady who says she's 97 years old is Sara Mason.
The date is the patent date, not the manufacturing date. Many jar manufacturers used the mason jar patent. The value will depend on the condition and the actual size - how many gallons, quarts, etc. I have been researching the value of a 7 gallon jar with the same date and with an eagle on the other side. The value appears to be between 25 and 50 dollars. The jar is a new one. Only 25 or 30 years old. That should give you some idea. The reference below is a history of the fruit jar. It has a section on how to date your jar. Found it just after I answered your question. http://www.fohbc.com/FOHBC_References3.html
75 to 100 dollars. They are not old but they were made by libbey glass about 25 years ago in mass quanities
The value of an old canning jar with "Mom's Mason Jar" on it can vary depending on several factors, including its age, condition, rarity, and demand among collectors. Some vintage canning jars with specific markings or designs can be highly sought after by collectors and may fetch a higher price. To determine the exact value of a specific jar, it is recommended to consult with antique experts or appraisers who specialize in vintage glassware.
