At the beginning of each decade, the price of a first-class stamp in the United States was as follows: in 1960, it was 4 cents; in 1970, it rose to 6 cents; in 1980, it increased to 15 cents; in 1990, it reached 25 cents; in 2000, it was 33 cents; and by 2010, it had risen to 44 cents. As of 2020, the price of a first-class stamp was 55 cents. These prices reflect the gradual increase in mailing costs over the years.
