Is a 1960 deutschmark made of silver?

1950 was the first year that coins were struck by the newly-formed Federal Republic of Germany (Bundesrepublik Deutschland).

Rhat means coins from 1950 are quite common among collectors, so they don't carry a lot of extra value.sammler.com, a major German collectibles site, lists the following approximate retail values as of 04/2012:

If the coin shows substantial wear it may only be worth a dollar or so.

No such denomination exists (Neither the Federal Republic of Germany or the Peoples Republic of Germany issued a coin of more than 10 Marks), so I am assuming you have a 50 Pfenning coin. All mints for this year range in value from 50 cents US in Very Fine Condition to $8USD in Uncirculated condition.

It's made of cupronickel. These were common circulation coins until 2002 when Germany adopted the euro. Today they have no exchange value but a nice specimen with minimal wear might retail for $2 to $3 depending on its mint mark.
