By definition, a carbine is a short rifle. The standard M-16 has a 20" barrel, while the M-4 has a 16" barrel. A number of US Rifles have had carbine versions, with the notable exceptions being the M-1903 and the Rifle, .30 M-1.
there are (basically) two types of trapdoors. The rifle and the carbine. (There is also a cadet model) The rifle barrel is 32 5/8" long and the carbine barrel is 22" long. Since you say 'short forearm' it would appear you have a carbine. Measure the barrel to be sure. As to value, it would depend on overall condition, finish, serial number (when it was made) bore and wood...................send me the full serial number and I will tell you when it was made.
Well, it was made in 1957 so we know it is supposed to be the standard 20" barrel carbine. What we dont know is the condition, so we have to guess. Anywhere from $250-$500. sales@countrygunsmith.net
Manufactured in 1950, and should be a 20" barrel carbine. www.countrygunsmith.net
Approximately 650.00
100-1000 USD or more depending on specifics.

better to indicate if your firearms is a rifle, carbine, pistol ??? if pistol, is it a cap and ball or cartridge ????????? also the model which is written on the barrel..........
Need more information - is this model a 9mm semi-auto carbine or pistol? Length of barrel and description of firearm is needed.
Go to proofhouse.com to date it with the serial number. Go to http://www.winchestercollector.org/guns/1894.shtml for a brief history. Measure the barrel to see if you have rifle or carbine.
The answer to your questions is highly dependent upon two things; (1) Is it a standard Sporting Rifle, a Deer Rifle (deluxe checkered stocks), a Carbine (20-inch barrel), or a deluxe Carbine? (2) What is the graded condition? Bert H.
