Hess's gift certificates were in the form of a "coin" that were presented or packaged in a box that resembled a jewelry box that a bracelet or necklace would be packaged in. Not just a paper gift box, but an actual velvet box with a hinged lid. Hess's was noted for "the best of everything" and that included the way they presented their gift certificates. It was a unique thing. I am not sure any other retailer did such a thing.
