In the US military, there are six parachutist badges.First is the Basic Parachutist Badge. It is earned by graduating from the Army Airborne School. All military parachutists who haven't earned another badge wear this one.Next is the Senior Parachutist Badge - Army and Air Force only. You must graduate from Jumpmaster School, serve in an airborne unit for at least 24 months, and do 30 jumps - half of which must be with combat equipment and several at night - to qualify. The night jump requirement is no problem; the 82nd Airborne does a lot of jumping at night. Then there is the Master Parachutist Badge. Qualifications are similar to the Senior Parachutist Badge, but it's 65 jumps and three years. The fourth badge is the Rigger Badge. Riggers pack and maintain parachutes and prepare loads for airdrop. All Riggers are airborne qualified and jump with parachutes they packed themselves. Graduating from Rigger School earns this award. The Navy and Marines award a gold badge to any airborne-qualified person who makes five jumps after graduating from Airborne School. You have to jump two different aircraft and make a mixture of night drops, daytime drops, and equipment jumps.
