This is a rather vague question. In the War Between the States, the uniforms for the confederates were grey or butternut brown, and those of the union were blue. These consisted, on the visible outside, of trousers and a uniform coat (as well as belts, buckles, and other such things) and an angled-top "kepi"-style cap as headwear. In WWII, the uniform depended on the circumstances: there was a dress uniform, a duty uniform, and a combat uniform, to name a few. A web search will easily produce pictures.
American soldiers wore their ordinary uniforms- since the attack on the US Naval base by Japan was not announced ahead of time. There was no "special clothing" worn by US forces.
The Union uniform was blue, the Confederacy uniform was gray. Other than the color, the clothing was quite simple and ordinary. Uniforms were not elaborate.
