If you found a diamond, either a loose stone or a piece of jewelry with a diamond in it, you can advertise the fact.

In your ad, state a general description of what you found and when and where, and ask for the person who lost it to give you a precise description.

As well, look locally for ads describing a lost item, and again, ask for a precise description.

Otherwise, you can turn it in to the local police department. They can register it as a found item, and over a period, if no one claims it, you can, and it becomes your property.

Ideally, you want to help the person who lost it, be reunited with it. If you are not able to find the person who lost it, after a diligent search, you should be able to keep it.
