Medical grade piercing jewellery (the really good stuff) will not trigger the metal detection equipment ( the walk thru metal detector ) at the Airport. However if you don't get rid of all the excess metal in your pockets and remove the belt buckle etc. the walk thru detector may trigger due to these cheaper materials. Once that happens you will be flagged aside and searched using the hand held metal detection wand which will alarm on the piercing jewellery due to the sensitivity it is set at.
