just 1 p
"1p" is the abbreviation for 1 British penny. 100 pence = £1, so 1p is not worth much.
What denomination is the coin? "New Pence" were introduced in 1968 when Britain eliminated its old coinage system and adopted a 100-based system like most other countries. New Pence (since 1982, called just "pence") are issued in denominations of 1p, 2p, 5p, 10p, 20p, 50p, £1 (100p) and £2. The pound is currently worth about $2 U.S. so you can effectively figure your coin's value by taking its denomination in pence and multiplying by 2 to get cents.
In the United Kingdom the first 1p coins were in 1971
in 1970 3p then in 1972 when decimalised 5 new pence!
I am sure you can. It will be worth 1p
The coins struck in the United Kingdom up to 1967 were known as the old currency or £ - s - d. They included the old pennies struck up to that date. From Monday 15 February 1971 decimalisation took place and the new coins were the 1/2p, 1p and 2p. They were all given 'NEW PENNY' or 'NEW PENCE' as part of the legend as they were at the time the new currency. From 1983, after 12 years of being issued, they were simply called 'ONE PENNY' or 'TWO PENCE'. The 1/2p was withdrawn in 1984.
because one of the other coins is a 1p
There are 100 pence (1p coins) in a pound. Therefore, it takes 100 1p coins to make a total of £1.
£1 worth of 1p coins would weigh 100 grams, as there are 100 1p coins in £1. Each 1p coin weighs approximately 3.56 grams.
1p
1p , 50p , 2p , 10p , 20p .5p
At this time the U.K. is the only country to use that denomination. Since 1971 one penny (abbreviated "p") has been 1/100 of a pound sterling. Before that time it was defined as 1/240 of a pound. The singular "penny" has two somewhat unusual plurals - the expected "pennies" when referring to more than one 1p coin, but "pence" when referring to a single coin whose denomination is higher than 1p. So if you have 10 pennies, their total worth is 10 pence!
