Cleaning a coin is never advised,.. it will lose some if not all of it's collectable value.

any scrubbing or even rubbing will flatten the coins surface and change it's natural appearance, and once done the natural luster can never be restored.

with that said, I have boiled "dirty" coins and removed the dirt and crud, the tarnish stays intact., Olive oil will loosen some tarnish and dirt without damaging the surface as much.

anything more aggressive will damage the coin and seriously harm it's real value.

What cleans coins better?

DO NOT TRY TO CLEAN VALUABLE COINS. The only coins you should try to clean are common-date coins you get in change. Anything you use to clean a coin may make it look shiny for a while, but the cleaning affects its surface in a way that will accelerate the damage later.

How do you clean gold and silver coins?

You don't. You don't EVER clean a gold coin and you don't clean a silver coin. Cleaning ruins the value of coins! If it has any collector value at all it will be demolished by a cleaning. Cleaning can take a $100 coin into a $10 coin. It will never, ever improve the value of the coin unless you literally dug it out of the ground. Do not clean coins.
