A normal relief coin has their features rather smooth and are easier to strike. A high relief coin on the other hand has features that sharply protrude from the coin, these coins are often sought after because since they took longer to strike, they were usually replaced by normal relief coins when the coins were produced for circulation. However, now many mints will produce high-relief coins for collectors, such as the 2009 ultra-high-relief US double eagle.
