The sub denomination of the euro is the cent. Each euro can be divided into 100 cents. Due to the large amount of languages and cultures in the Eurozone nicknames for currency will vary. In Ireland it is not uncommon for a single cent to be referred to as a penny, its predecessor in the Irish punt (pound) currency system. Similarly the French refer to a euro cent as a "centime", and the Germans often call it a "pfennig".
