This was probably either a Safety Hammer Model or Safety Hammerless Model made from 1892 to 1950. In the 2004 Blue Book the Hammerless was worth $60 in 60% condition and $125 in 100% condition and the Safety Hammer model was worth $40 and $100 respectively.

Get a copy of The Standard Catalog of Firearms from your library and look through the Iver Johnson listings.
Earl Hand was born on 1897-03-10.
The 1897 novel is in the public domain, so the copyright currently has no value. First editions of the novel, on the other hand, tend to be priced between $12,000 and $13,000.
A fortune since it would have to been made by hand as a prototype nearly 10 years in advance of production.
Iver Johnson began making top break revolvers in about 1871. The "Owl's Head" was their logo. We cannot give you a date, as a serial number was not unique to only one firearm- it would depend on the model. Value is based on exact make, model and condition (you only gave us the make). Value of average specimens is usually modest, around $75-150, depending again on condition and model. Some were made for black powder cartridges, and should not be fired with modern smokeless ammo.
Calvin Johnson's hand size is 9.3 inches in length.
Caliber? Top-break? I recently bought an unfired Model 56 SA chambered in .32 S&W. It's not even in the Blue Book, so even though I own it, I know nothing about it.
With just the serial number, nothing.
Check e-gunparts.com I checked and they do have the forearm but you have to go to the bottom of the parts list because it is not illistrated. Not sure if its a 1948 or older.
