The entire 52nd Field Artillery Brigade of the 27th was detached at the beginning of their tour, and never served with their Division. Instead, they were in the Meuse-Argonne Offensive under the French and then American Armies.
Operation Style - 2000 Grandma's 79th was released on: USA: 19 December 2000
Every assualt from the water during WWII had its own D-Day, the day on which the landings began. If you mean D-day as in Operation Overlord, the allied invasion of Normandy, there was lots of people involved, from the generals to the soldiers. There were two main stages, airborne troops were dropped in the night to capture roads, towns and bridges. Later in the morning around about 6.00 am infantry started attacking the beachs code named Omaha, Gold, Juno and Sword. There was also Point Du Hoc where US Army Ranger scaled the heights to attach German gun emplacements. Utah was attacked by the US 4th infantry division and Omaha by the 29th and 1st infantry divisions. Gold was attacked by the 50th British division with element's of the 79th armoured the 231st Infantry Brigade and the 69th Brigade. Juno beach was attacked by the 3rd Canadian armoured brigade. Sword beach was attacked by the 3rd British infantry division. Earlier in the morning paratroopers of the 101st and 82nd airborne and the British 6th airborne division dropped behind the coast. A while before D-Day commandos were taking soil and sand samples to help with the assault. There were also people who made fake tanks and planes to try and mislead the enemy's into thinking the attack would be somewere else. The French Resistance helped a lot. The commanders were Dwight Eisenhower, Arthur Tedder, Bernard Montgomery, Trafford Leigh-Mallory and Bertram Ramsay.
