Typically the value of Franklin Mint items is its melt value. This is the value of the silver if the item was melted down for its scrap value.

Keep in mind that Franklin Mint uses Sterling Silver. It is only 92.5% silver. Pure silver is 99.9% silver. So the melt value is adjusted accordingly. A good rule of thumb is to expect to get about 80% of the price of pure silver.

That said, like with any collectible, it is worth what someone else is willing to pay. If you happen to find someone who wants it and values it for more than the melt value, then count yourself lucky, and sell it to them.

But if they had been platinum.. .it would have been 500 times what they were when bought.

However they were presidential commentarives..

Btw,Franklin mint doesnt use exclusive Sterling Silver... I have franklin mint items that are higher than 92.5% ... However otherwise the above info is good.

What a lazy, no help at all answer. I'll try to at least give an intelligent possibility. First of all, it depends on the plate. Some plates currently (probably because of our long suffering low economy) have almost no value at this time, $1.99. Not even close to issue price. Some, for instance such as The F.M. Heirlooom Recommendation Garden of Jewels Imperial Egg seems to hold a firm value of $75.00. I came to this conclusion by researching many websites, comparing comparable plates, and the deduction (from the best I could research) was that the market for this plate was not over saturated, thereby making the value higher due to seeming rarity. I'm not an expert, but I've survived for the past 4 years without being employed (no unemployment checks, welfare, or any handouts of any sort) by buying what I thought to look like quality items and books at goodwill, etc. and reselling at a profit. If you type in the name of your plate and search a bit you will realize an answer for your particular plate(s). Hope my answer was an improvement.
