The 1863 shilling is a very rare coin. Just 859,320 were struck. They are rated as R2 (very rare) in Peter Alan Rayner's book called "English Silver Coinage". In mint state they can sell for £800+. They are normally found in poor condition although even in the lower grades can make between £50 - £500. Look out for the even rarer 1863 over a 1 (where the numeral 3 is struck over a 1)...they can sell for double!!
