The metal it was made out of. Oneida flatware has little or not value unless it's silver. The company is in a downward spiral & has lost it's reputation as a good flatware manufacturer. Switching to offshore product to increase profit margin has destroyed this company. Sad but true.

First, go to Replacements, Ltd. and look up the manufacturer and pattern. For most, but not all patterns, this works and provides the period of manufacture and an idea of value.
The Oneida Ltd silver flatware set with the serial number 2149 was issued in 1946. This particular design is part of the "Community" pattern, which was popular during that era. I am sorry to tell you, not much. With the scramble for sterling, the silver plate is being chucked to one side at a furious pace. Also the housing bust did not help. Here in Florida the Goodwills, Salvation Army and thrift stores are filled to the brim with silver plated flatware. The best way to sell, is in pieces on ebay. A nice silver plated flatware set with serving pieces are common at 25.00 to 100.00
I have a full set of WM A. Rogers AA heavy Oneida LTD. Flatware... It says on the back of the knives "STAINLESS". I hope this answers your question. I have a similar set of flatware and the "Stainless" on the knife means the blade is stainless. However, the handle and other parts of set could be stainless or silverplate. WM A Rogers did mostly silver plated flatware, not sterling silver. If it tarnishes it is most likely silver-plated.
