What you are looking at are Belgian Proof marks. Most countries have safety requirements for firearms and are stamped with what are called Proofs. These atest to the safety of the firearm at that time. Antique firearms ( pre 1898 in the usa) were made for black powder not modern smokeless powder. The proofs on an antique firearm were for black powder use. On line you can find pictures of proof marks and country of origin.
