Cost of a postage stamp was dependant on the face value of the stamp. The most common rate stamp is for First Class Mail. In the United States 1929 that was 2 cents for the first ounce.

The postage rate changed in May 2007. It was raised from 391 cents to 41 cents on May 7th. The second ounce of postage was reduced to 17 cents..
