you would go to an antique store the employe there will tell you the value of the guns and you might be able to sell them there but im not sure In order to be considered an antique according to the federal government, they must have been manufactured before January 1, 1899. If you can't prove it is older, the Feds assume it is newer and you have to jump through their hoops to sell it. Some states have even more restrictive laws, so check with a licensed firearms dealer. First you need to identify the guns. The Standard Catalog of Firearms would probably be the first book to get. Your local library should have a copy. It will also give you some good information on how to determine the condition of the guns, and that is the key to the value. Then, if they are really antique, you can sell them yourself on one of the online auction sites (antiqueguns.com, gunbroker.com, gunsamerica.com). If they are not antiques, you can still handle most of the sale yourself, but you will have to turn the guns over to a licensed dealer to ship them to a dealer in the buyer's home state (and both dealers will want to be paid for their services). In most states, you can put an ad in the local paper and sell them face-to-face as long as the buyer is over 18 and you have no reason to believe he is prohibited (felony conviction, under a restraining order, mentally incompetent, etc) from owning a firearm.

This is perhaps one of the most popular questions we get- along with "how much is my _____ worth?"

The value of any firearm will depend on make, model, condition, and any alterations that have been made to the original firearm. Simply being old does not make a firearm valuable.

Two good guides are the Blue Book of Gun Values, and the Gun Traders Guide. With both, you will need to be able to assess the condition of the firearm, and it IS very important. A 99% gun may be worth 3-5 times what a 90% gun is worth.

There are several internet firearm auction sites- three that come to mind are gunbroker, auctionarms, and gunsamerica. You can search these sites, check for firearms similar to yours, and see what they are selling for.

You can also visit a gun dealer, or a gun show, where collectors and dealers are gathered in one handy spot for your convenience.

If you have a question about a specific firearm, you can post here, along with information on the firearm, caliber, finish, all markings, etc, and we will do our best to give you a range of values in our opinion. PLEASE do not just ask "What is my gun worth?"

One could purchase an antique gun through an antique gun broker. There are several listed online. One could also purchase one through the outdoors store, Cabelas.
