Japan did not join the Central powers, it joined the allied powers.

Germany was with Austria-Hungary, Bulgaria, and the Ottoman Empire for the Central Powers. Italy was also in the alliance, but mid-way through the war, it switched sides to join the Allied Powers (Russia, France, Britain, and U.S.)
Ottoman Empire joined World War 1 so as to join forces with the Germany. The other reason was the friction with the friction with Turkey.

Both powers were a combined alliance of nations, the allies were; Great Britain, France, Spain, Belgium,(eventually the US would join the war but in 1918). The Central Power were; Germany(Remember, just Germany not "Nazi" Germany because the Nazi's were WW2), Austria-Hungary, Ottoman Empire, and Bulgaria( Italy would eventually switch over to the allies.
