I think you might mean genus. Genre is a style or type of expression.
"A comedy specialty" is a comedian who also has another entertainment talent--he is perhaps a juggler or musician. One is inclined to think of Victor Borge who was a comedian but also a classical musician. A playwright might include such a person in a play, but likely only where he knows there is a performer with the correct talents readily available.
It might interest, involve and amuse them.
