Neil Gailman, a fictional writer, wrote it as a book first which was later adapted into the movie. There is not another dimension where a witch wants to sew buttons on your eyes.

Yes because the fight over coraline and the other mother is good vs evil and all the fairy tales have that like an example:shrek and the prince in the third movie they battle and its a fariy tale! so that is your answer
