That is really relative to the chld in question and should likely be a choice made by the parents and the child based on their own morals and rules matched with the sophistication level of the child. If the 10-year-old has a reasonable ability to understand the context of a complex story at a mature level, then it is a fine choice for a comics fan. It has been labeled a 'Mature Readers' title as the plot contains subjects such as graphic violence, murder, sex, and rape --but so does Shakespeare. Bottom line: if you would not condone a ten-year-old watching an average episode of Law & Order, then you probably should hold off on letting him read Watchmen for a few more years. It will probably be worth the wait.
Watchmen is fiction.
The 'Watchmen' film was originally based of the comic book of the same name. The plot and characters are exactly the same as the comic book, so the film adaptation did well.
